- Define portal hypertension biased on accepted pressure thresholds.
- Explain how the altered physiology of portal hypertension is currently understood to cause sequelae including varices, ascites, and renal failure.
- Identify important anatomic structures that are relevant to treatment of portal hypertension including shunt pathways, relationship of portal and hepatic veins and known major anatomic variants.
